ACADEMICS
Focus of Our Programs
Our academic programs are based on an interdisciplinary, holistic, and team-oriented pedagogical approach. They promote critical thinking, ethical reflection, and collaborative learning. Students are encouraged to analyze complex social realities by integrating perspectives from social sciences, public health, environmental studies, and cultural analysis.
From an intercultural perspective, Western paradigms of development, modernity, and progress are critically analyzed alongside Indigenous, Afro-Ecuadorian, and mestizo worldviews. This dialogue of knowledge enables students to understand the structural contradictions of development models implemented in Ecuador and Latin America, situating them within the broader global economic, social, political, environmental, and cultural crisis.
Fundación Cimas fosters a learning community that brings together students, faculty, grassroots organizations, and various social actors. Through active participation in community projects, internships, and academic residencies, participants engage directly with local communities and their cultural contexts. These immersive experiences not only deepen academic learning and social engagement but also strengthen intercultural competence and Spanish language proficiency.
