Knowledge to Transform Realities
Research conducted in the Pedro Moncayo canton has become a cornerstone for understanding the social, cultural, environmental, and health impacts associated with agricultural development in the region. Through participatory methodologies, community assessments, and specialized interdisciplinary studies, CIMAS has generated knowledge that not only reveals local challenges but also guides concrete proposals to improve the quality of life for the population.
The development of innovative tools, such as the Community Local Information System (SILC)—awarded First Prize in the Latin American and Caribbean Context for Health Technologies in 2014—has been fundamental. This integrated platform brings together social, environmental, and health data to support territorial planning and evidence-based public policy formulation. It allows for a comprehensive understanding of multidimensional trends in social, economic, cultural, environmental, and public health determinants associated with the international-market-oriented flower production model.
