All emphasized the significance of the ESPINA study (Secondary Pesticide Exposure in Infants, Children, and Adolescents) as one of the most important longitudinal environmental health research projects in the country.<br \/>During the discussion, researchers and members of the ESPINA team presented scientific evidence demonstrating the association between chronic exposure to agrochemicals and alterations in physiology, growth, and neurodevelopment in children and adolescents, both in the short and long term. The study\u2019s findings have identified significant pesticide residues in food, water, and human biological samples, highlighting a structural problem of environmental exposure in regions with intensive agricultural activity.<br \/>Researchers Jos\u00e9 Ricardo Su\u00e1rez and Jos\u00e9 Su\u00e1rez Torres, specialists in public health and environmental epidemiology, analyzed the impacts of pesticides on human health, highlighting the differentiated risks faced by the most vulnerable groups, particularly children, pregnant women, and rural communities involved in floriculture and of responsible production and consumption from an early age.<\/p><p>In this contextthe representative from the Ministry of Education\u00a0<strong>Ana Bel\u00e9n Tapia<\/strong>, highlighted the absence of specific regulations ensuring adequate protection for pregnant women working in the floriculture sector, revealing a critical gap between labor legislation, public health, and reproductive rights.<\/p><p>Meanwhile,\u00a0<strong>Dolores L\u00f3pez<\/strong>the president of Fundaci\u00f3n CIMAS emphasized\u00a0<strong>agroecological alternatives<\/strong>as a strategic focus for Pedro Moncayo Canton, noting that the transition to sustainable agricultural systems not only reduces dependence on pesticides but also contributes to the protection of human health, biodiversity, soils, Ministerio de Salud P\u00fablica, Ministerio de Educaci\u00f3n, Prefectura de Pichincha, GADs parroquiales e instituciones internacionales, quienes coincidieron en destacar la relevancia del estudio ESPINA (Exposici\u00f3n Secundaria a Plaguicidas en Infantes, Ni\u00f1os y Adolescentes) como una de las investigaciones longitudinales m\u00e1s importantes del pa\u00eds en materia de salud ambiental.Durante el conversatorio, investigadores y miembros del equipo ESPINA expusieron evidencia cient\u00edfica que demuestra la asociaci\u00f3n entre la exposici\u00f3n cr\u00f3nica a agroqu\u00edmicos y alteraciones en la fisiolog\u00eda, el crecimiento y el neurodesarrollo de ni\u00f1os y adolescentes, tanto a corto como a largo plazo. Los resultados del estudio han identificado la presencia significativa de residuos de pesticidas en alimentos, agua y muestras biol\u00f3gicas humanas, lo que evidencia una problem\u00e1tica estructural de exposici\u00f3n ambiental en territorios con alta actividad agr\u00edcola.Los investigadores Jos\u00e9 Ricardo Su\u00e1rez y Jos\u00e9 Su\u00e1rez Torres, especialistas en salud p\u00fablica y epidemiolog\u00eda ambiental, analizaron los impactos de los pesticidas sobre la salud humana, subrayando los riesgos diferenciados que enfrentan los grupos m\u00e1s vulnerables, particularmente ni\u00f1os, mujeres embarazadas y comunidades rurales vinculadas a la floricultura y la agricultura intensiva.
